History: the S.S. Yongala sank in 1911 during a cyclone, with the loss of all 121 lives on board. The Wreck is a national historic site that lies within the beautiful Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, near Townsville. Due to its remote location, the wreck was not dived until 1958, remaining mostly untouched and allowing it to become a magnificent artificial reef.

Marine life: the artifacts, marine life and variety of corals that cover the wreck are spectacular. The wreck begins 14m below the surface and sits on a sandy bottom at 28m. Often seen are giant gropers, eagle rays, sea snake, turtles, giant trevally, maori wrasse, bull sharks and thousands of tropical fish. The occasional whale shark, mantra ray and in the cooler months, humpback whales, making it a dive you’ll never forget.

Vessel: Adrenalin is a 14 metre monohull boat, with easy access to the water, shady main deck and sundeck.

Minimum experience required: Open Water Scuba Diver ( min.6 logged dive)

All divers with less than 15 logged dives must be accompanied by one of the dive staff on Guided Dives
